What is Glasswalking?

“When patterns are broken, new worlds emerge.” Tuli Kupferberg.

Imagine a path of cool, shimmering glass, broken shards of blue and amber and green, the space drenched in softly glowing candlelight and ethereal music, a group of brave and beautiful souls sitting in community and presence.

One by one, they stand, with intention and deep presence, stepping slowly, mindfully, intuitively onto the glass. They test their first step, allowing their foot to settle deliberately into the glass, shifting that foot to a new spot if all does not feel comfortable and well. They feel into each step, moving forward, holding their balance both physically and mentally, each step resonating with the crunching sound of the glass settling underfoot. Only four steps or so, but each one brings them closer to the insight that they are powerful beings, capable of possibilities they have yet to consider.

As they reach the end of the glasswalk, stepping once again onto solid ground, there is a sigh of relief, a smile of satisfaction, a deep feeling of accomplishment and inner knowing, a new paradigm. And they become one with each being who stands to walk.

Glasswalking is the experience of dropping fully into presence, walking slowly, mindfully, and intuitively across shards of broken glass. Also known as icewalking, this exercise in personal empowerment became popular as a performance art and motivational exercise in the early 20th century. Its history is a likely combination of sideshow spectacle, corporate team-building, and a psychological metaphor for personal transformation. There seems to be no known ancient religious or cultural traditions around walking on broken glass, although the experience has gained popularity alongside its more ancient tradition of firewalking.

The glasswalk is an art form, a ceremony, a celebration, a meditation. It is strength and truth and personal power. This sacred ritual guides you into deep presence, helping you shed old stories and step boldly into the next chapter of your life. Through each mindful step, you reconnect with your inner strength, clarity and innate wisdom, embracing this newfound awareness as an authentic part of you.

Today, glasswalking is often interwoven into spiritual rituals, sacred ceremonies, or personal empowerment programs. Upon walking the glass, you must inevitably question the perception of your own reality: What else is possible in my life?

Shatter the illusion. Break through self-limiting beliefs. Walk the glass and feel your power rise.
